Who are The American People?

The American People: The American People. You hear an awful lot about them. Politicans, especially, are experts: they know what we want, need, feel, think, deserve, demand. So we thought we’d start keeping track of who’s claiming to speak for us, the American People. Who speaks for you?

Hijacking the playlist

Hijacking the playlist: An Irish easy listening station is being relaunched with another format, so in the meantime not only has the web site been hijacked, but it has posted the lyrics to the only song it has been playing over and over (a Muppets song called “Mahna Mahna”) so you can sing along.

Sounds That Surround You Make It Onto Your Playlist

Sounds That Surround You Make It Onto Your Playlist: An interesting-sounding device that has a built-in FM tuner with 20 station presets that records all the signals at the same time to its hard drive, so any of those recordings could be added to your music collection. It also has a built-in microphone to record your own voice or whatever other sounds are around you at the time.

Portraits of couples who are either best friends or worst enemies

Julie Moos: Friends and Enemies: Photographer Julie Moos shoots portraits of couples who are either best friends or worst enemies and places them against a non-descript background. The viewer is left to draw his or her own conclusions about existing relationships. By evaluating body language, clothing and facial expressions one is given clues; but the stereotypical surface evidence can be misleading. In this series Moos brings to our attention how similarities and differences can affect our judgment about individuals and color our notion of who is considered a friend or foe.

Create a beacon to track your stolen computer

Computer crimes of another kind: Sadly it took someone’s laptop to get stolen to get this idea, but it’s an excellent one: create a beacon by having your startup URL be your own web site, but with a secret code attached to the end of it. When a person tries to use the computer, you’ll see it in your referrer logs and be able to track them down via their IP address (and thus real name and address) at that time of connection.

Boxes and Arrows: The Book of Probes: Boxes and Arrows reviews The Book of Probes and further proves it’s an excellent thing to pick up and perhaps get one for me while you’re at it.
